Flag in the Wind

1. Create an image of a flag.
2. After loading the image, expand the canvas size about 30 by 30, as the image will be expanding as it curls.
3. 
4. Create a new image with the same dimensions as your flag image.
5. Marquee Too > Marquee Options > Rectangular Shape and Normal Style
6. Select the left half of the image.
7. Gradient > Gradient Tool Options > Edit
8. You may adjust the degree of the gradient.
9. Click-and-drag the mouse from the left side of the selected area to the right side.
10. To select the other side of the image, Select > Inverse.
11. Fill it with the same gradient.
12. Image > Adjust > Invert to invert the gradient on the right side of the image.
13. Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur to soften the center line.
14. Save the displacement bump map in PSD.

16. Make the flag image current.
17. Filter > Distort > Displace
18. Set the horizonatal scale to 0%; vertical to 10%, experiment with it.
19. OK > Choose a displacement map > Choose a bump map file you saved.

21. Make the bump map file current.
22. Select > All > Edit > Copy
23. Make the flag image current.
24. Channels > New Channel
25. Edit > Paste to paste the bump map into the channel.
26. Make the layer active.
27. Deselect
28. Magic Wand Tool and click anywhere outside of the flag.
29. Select > Inverse
30. Filter > Render > Lighting Effects
31. Be sure to check White is High and indicate Texture Channel is #4.
