- Open the damaged picture you want to recover.
In this example, I put small spot on my picture, but this technique will be very useful in removing wrinkles of the face and crumpled edges of old pictures. If you want to be in Film Industry, this will set the basics for your profession. Even if not, you will make your grandparents happy with your family pictures.
- Turn to Quick Mask mode.
- Paint the damaged areas with Paint and Brush tools, and Rubber Stamp. As you are in Quick Mode, touched areas will turn into red.
- Select > Load Selection > Quick Mode to select the masked areas.
- Select > Inverse.
- Copy the selection.
- New Layer.
- Paste Into the new layer. Touched up areas will be copied into the new layer.
- Filter > Noise > Dust and Scratches to soften the images and roughly remove the damaged areas.
- Apply Gaussian Blur to soften the touch ups.
- Filter > Noise > Add Noise to clean the areas which were not covered by Gaussian Blur.
- Adjust Opacity to integrate two layers softly and naturally.
