
This will perfect your skills for embossing letters without filters.
- Fill the background with your choice of color or pattern.
- Create a new channel.
- Type the text.
- Cut and Paste to center the text
- Select > Save Selection.
- Create a new layer.
- Select > Load Selection.
- Fill it with the background color.
- Make 2 copies of this layer and rename as follows from top to botton:
"Fill"
"Shadow"
"Highlight"
- Lets' assume the light source is from the upper left.
To have an Embossed In or Carved look:
- Go to "Shadow Layer"
- With "Preserve Transparency" is checked, fill it with "black" to mark shadow area.
- With "Preserve Transparency" is UNchecked, move the layer a little bit to the upper left.
- Go to "Highlight Layer"
- With "Preserve Transparency" is checked, fill it with "white" to mark the highlighted area.
- With "Preserve Transparency" is UNchecked, move the layer a little bit to the lower right.
- Voila!
To have an Embossed Out or Pop Out look:
- Go to "Shadow Layer"
- With "Preserve Transparency" is checked, fill it with "black" to mark shadow area.
- With "Preserve Transparency" is UNchecked, move the layer a little bit to the lower right.
- Go to "Highlight Layer"
- With "Preserve Transparency" is checked, fill it with "white" to mark the highlighted area.
- With "Preserve Transparency" is UNchecked, move the layer a little bit to the upper left.
- Here you go!
